Recovery of jaaroopgave
Accounting for income earned in a given tax year is the responsibility of every employee working in the Netherlands. However, in order for this to be possible, a tax card, or jaaropgaaf commonly referred to as a jarograph, is required.
If you do not have jaaropgaaave then we can obtain income information for you from the FLG system at Belastingdienst within 3 weeks.
Jaaropgave – what is it?
The jaropgaaf is a document that contains particularly important information for you about your income, advance payments for income tax, health insurance and social security. According to Dutch law, every employer is obliged to issue you with a jarograf after your employment relationship has ended. The layout of the jarograph varies from one company to another, but this does not really matter. After all, the most important thing is the information contained in the document.
How to read a jarograph?
Below you will find a short guide to help you read the Jaaropgave received from your employer:
- Loon (LOON VOOR LOONBELASTING/PREMIE VV or FISCAAL LOON) – your gross revenue;
- Ingehouden Loonbelasting/Premie Volksverzekeringen (LOONHEFFING or INGEHOUDEN LOONHEFFING or LOONBELASTING/PREMIE V.V.) – social security and income tax payments made and the maximum amount of tax refund you can claim;
- Levensloopverlofkorting – relief for length of service;
- Arbeidskorting (VERREKENDE ARBEIDSKORTING) – relief for employees;
- Loonheffingskorting – tax relief for salaried employees;
- Ziekenfonds premiums (INGEHOUDEN BIJDRAGE ZORGVERZEKERINGSWET) – health insurance premiums;
- Loon Zorgverzekeringswet – gross income subject to health insurance.
How to recover the jarograave?
Since the financial data concerning your employment and the wages paid to you are in the possession of your employer, it is from him that you should seek information. As we have already mentioned, you must receive a jarograave when your employment ends, but if this is not the case, contact your former employer and request the document.
However, there are many situations in which it is not possible to obtain a tax card from the employer (e.g. bankruptcy). In such a case, it is still possible to obtain an IB60 from the Belastingdienst or a printout from the FLG system. The former only contains gross income and, although it can be very useful in dealing with a lot of paperwork, it cannot be used as a basis for tax return from the Netherlands. The FLG, on the other hand, contains all the salary data, thanks to which we will be able to file a declaration with the Dutch office.
How do you get a jarograph from the UWV?
If you have received Dutch unemployment benefit or maternity or sickness benefit, you must also include the income from these benefits in your tax return. You can obtain a jarograph from the Dutch employment office on the UWV website by logging into your account with the code DigiD.
No yarograph Netherlands – what to do?
By law, the jaaropgaaf (jaarograf, jaaropgaave) should reach you by mid-March at the latest. If you have lost your jaaropgaaf or cannot access it for various reasons, you can obtain the necessary data from the FLG (Fiscale Loon Gegegvens). Each tax office will also provide you with the necessary information if you request it.
If you have problems, contact us and use our Dutch tax settlement service. We will help you collect the necessary documentation and take care of all the formalities. We have the software to download your financial data directly from the Belastingdienst.
